Maartje (my sister's youngest daughter) has reached swimming level A today. We went to Woerden this morning to see Maartje at her swimming exam. She had to swim under water, on her back and float for a couple of seconds and she did it all flawless. Congratulations maartje!! After that we went to De Lier to see grandpa and grandma Struyk. Grandpa was at home again after being admitted to the hospital a couple of days but he's in better shape again. Unfortunately they want to do some more tests so he will have to go back again, probably on wednesday.

A nice short holiday and sad news
We enjoyed the warm weather this weekend in the comfort of our own local beach and also went to a great big park with swimming pools.
But there was some bad news as well. Lisette's dad was admitted to hospital again and dad had to go to a last farewell of one of his former colleguages. Hans de Kruif only lived to be 49.. Hans was a no nonse guy, honest and straight forward. But above all, more a friend than a colleguage. He suffered a kidney discease and was unaware. During the burial I met with a lot of former colleguages and eveyone had the same opinion, he was a great guy! Hans de Kruif, past away much too soon. Lisette in the mean time went to our local year market in Andel.
Sunday afternoon we spent at our local beach where Wende found her boyfriend Mels and Nils played with some friends from school. Monday we went to Oosterhout where Lisette knew there was a big outdoor swimming pool with a lot of other things to do for kids. The "warande" as it is called was great, the kids loved it and we'll surely go back there a lot, but in the mornings because in the afternoon it is packed..

Last week we went to Germany to see my aunt Mieke and my nieces and nephews. My nephew Rolf I last saw about a year ago but my other nephew Wolfgang but the last time I saw my nieces Ingrid and Dagmar was least 30 years or so. We rented a small house from the family Weiss which was excellent. A nice cottage, newly renovated with (to Nils and Wende's great surprise) a television set in every bedroom. For the kids there was a trampoline and a big garden to play in. On top of all the family Weiss also runs a horse pension where horse owners without enough space for their horses, have them stay there. The family reunion started with my aunt Mieke welcoming us at the cottage when we arrived and the next day we were invited for a dinner with all the relatives. It was a great evening and that was not all. The next day we went to Playmobil land. Nils and Wende had the time of their life and played with all the playmobil things; there was a huge playmobil castle, plastick horses to pet, a cowboy village were you could go hunt for gold (if other parents hunting as well made any room foor you..). Furthermore you could play with boats and enter a real pirate ship. And inside there was so much playmobil to play with that we even had to keep a good eye on the kids not to let them out of our sight. The next day we spent at the cottage and walked in the woods nearby. In the evening we were invited to have dinner with Wolfgang and his wife Heidi. They had their house build a couple of years ago and it was stunning. He also made the furniture himself and they had a pool! We enjoyed their hospitality but unfortunately the children were getting tired and their behaviour went downhill.. The next day we went to the transport museum where I went years ago but unfortunately there was not much to do there for the kids. The playground as I remembered was still the same but outdated and poorly maintained. Ah well, Nils and Wende loved running around the trains and the train ride to and from the museum. The last day Nils and Wende rode a pony and especially Wende liked it so much that she had a big smile on her face which did not go away for a long time..As a small thank you we invited ant Mieke to dinner at the cottage a spent a cosy afternoon with her in the small kitchen.
Thank you tante Mieke, Rolf, Ingrid, Dagmar Wolfgang, both Heidi's and Stephan. And a special "get well" to Heidi, hope you'll be allright soon.
